About Us
MAYEM’s founding, purpose, areas of activity and role in the mining sector.
The Professional Development Association of Mining & Geoscience Professionals (MAYEM) was founded in Ankara on 3 September 2021 under the name Mining Engineers Professional Development Association (MMMGD), with registration number 06-145-088. By resolution of the January 2025 General Assembly, it was renamed MAYEM and expanded its full membership beyond mining engineers to include geology, geophysics and other mining professionals.
Our Purpose
MAYEM works to help mining and geoscience professionals in Türkiye gain competence in their fields of expertise, to support the development of mining and geoscience technologies, to bring professionals together, to strengthen technical and social solidarity among members, and to contribute to the development of the national mining industry.
As a non-profit civil society organization, MAYEM organizes trainings and events to ensure the continuous professional development of geoscience and mining professionals in line with CRIRSCO and UMREK standards.
Our Areas of Activity
- Continuous professional development trainings, seminars, workshops and certificate programs
- An online presentation series held via Zoom and published on our YouTube channel (MAYEM Presentations)
- Organizing national and international symposia, congresses and conferences
- Post-mining activities, rehabilitation, environmental responsibility and sustainable mining
- Scientific and professional publications, notably the Mining and Beyond magazine
- Building cooperation and a professional network among academia, public and private sectors
Our Role in the Mining Sector
MAYEM contributes to the mining sector particularly through its pioneering work on post-mining activities. The International Post Mining Symposium (IPMS) is the first platform where the concept of "post-mining" was addressed comprehensively and scientifically in Türkiye.
Our Academic and Industry Contribution
MAYEM builds a strong knowledge and cooperation network in mining by bringing together universities, public institutions, industry professionals and students, and aims to transfer professional knowledge to future generations.
