The 3rd Gemology Workshop
12-13 Kasım 2025To bring together scientific researchers and industry representatives to discuss the stages gemstones undergo from formation to reaching the consumer, share experiences and research findings, develop opportunities for national and international cooperation, and propose solutions to common challenges, the “3rd Gemology Workshop” will be held in Istanbul on November 12–13, 2025.
Organized by the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Geological Engineers of Türkiye (TMMOB), in collaboration with representatives from academia, public institutions, and the private sector, the event will address topics such as the economic contribution of gemstones, challenges in production–consumption processes, and laboratory applications.
Prior to the workshop, on November 11, 2025, a one-day Gemology Application Workshop will be held at Istanbul University–Cerrahpaşa, Büyükçekmece Campus, Department of Geological Engineering, with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students.
This workshop aims to serve as a platform for discussing not only the fundamentals of gemology but also specialized subfields, including:
• Gemology education and professional development pathways
• Identification of gemstones (physical and optical properties)
• Valuation and certification processes of diamonds and colored stones
• Distinguishing synthetic and imitation stones
• Archaeogemology
• Gemstone enhancement and treatment
• Gemstone processing (lapidary)
• Transformation of gemstones into jewelry (setting and mounting)
• Marketing of gemstones
The 3rd Gemology Workshop aims to strengthen knowledge exchange in the field of gemology and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
